Description
I have called this image Puffin's Rock, but I could have left the apostrophe out because I do think Puffins Rock. They are great fun to watch and their colourful beaks give them a clownish appearance, especially when they are full of sand eels.
I took this group on The Farne islands off the North East coast of England where they congregate in huge numbers during the nesting season. They nest in burrows on the islands and are great fishermen tirelessly flying out to sea and back with their beaks full of sand eels. After the breeding season they spend the next 9 months at sea only returning to land again when it's time to mate and rear their chicks.
